attending?
Is it worth paying $hundreds to attend some security conference?
I'm tempted to go to some in Calif. or Vegas. But if you're doing it on your own dime, the fees are so expensive.
So what's the best ones to attend?

I would say it would be worth it if it pertains to your profession. Otherwise its quite an expensive lecture.

as dorky as this may sound... I attempted to go to blizzcon(Diablo for life!) but tickets were sold out and that was going to be freaking expensive! As far as the other conventions, i would say that if you are really interested in them and can afford to go, for it! I would love to go to many of those conventions but nigh can afford. Just plan waay ahead so that you can save enough money.

SANS 2007 in San Diego was pretty good. Fun too.
They had some pretty good advanced classes and some decent cocktail seminars.
SANS 504 is great for new comers to security and there is a pretty tough capture the flag game on day 6.
But I suggest you learn as much as you can on your own, before going to any of these.
