Yes, definitely!
-
No, it doesn't merit it's own forum.

What do the blue lines in hockey mean?

Well JP, if you think about it, networking security and then general networking are two different fields, although inter-related. We could say that networking security could be a sub-topic of general networking, but not the other way around. For example if a user needed information regarding setting up RIP for sixteen networks (god forbid) that wouldn't necessarily go into the networking security forum. I'm not saying it's necessary but there's definitely a hole as far as general networking questions go.

But the description of the existing forum includes what we're talking about. It's not a networking forum per se, but a networking security forum. Maybe renaming the existing one is the best course?

Not to pick on you, N00bius, but you cannot set up RIP for 16 networks, as the hop-count in RIP is limited to 15---anything beyond that is unreachable. Sorry...I know that was only an example...

That would be the easiest course of action, but renaming it wouldn't take it out of the security discussions section, so it doesn't solve the problem of there not being a general forum for networking. For example there's a thread in the network security section for configuring a cisco router, and it doesn't belong there since it has nothing to do with security, but there's no where else labeled networking for it to go. It'd be more convenience than anything else.

Well I didn't think we were adding a networking forum, but a place to discuss security IN networking. Am I off?

We already have a section that fufills that purpose. I don't think Cisco security could warrant it's own forum section, but general networking questions could because they don't have a forum.
So i'm suggesting a networking section under the General Technology Forums for threads that deal with networking but are not security related. This may be different from what everyone else is thinking, but that's my two cents.

Well given this convo we've just had, I assume folks will weigh in to clarify.
