Windows 2000 startup items?
Hi
Does anyone know how to access startup items in Win 2000? A friend at work has asked me how to remove unnecessary items from loading with Windows, but she doesn't seem to have MSConfig the way XP and Vista do. Embarrassingly, she came to me because she considered me better informed about computers in general, and I can't answer this simple question!
Is anyone familiar with Win 2k? I've only used it at work where I haven't had access to startup items anyway.

Well you can do it in administrative tools, but when faced with the same issue, I opted to download MS config. The XP version works with Windows 2000.

Or you can just use good old regedit!

You can also copy msconfig from one of you're xp workstations to the 2000 workstations.
Though, I've alwasy been a fan of hijackthis and startuplist from Merijn

WolfeTone: Don't forget that there are many places that programs can hide to start themselves. Regedit is nice, but it's easier to have a utility that will report to you all the programs starting from the various places. Not that Moira is inexperienced... but I don't recommend people to just start poking around and modifying the registry.
Quitmzilla is a firefox extension that gives you stats on how long you have quit smoking, how much money you\'ve saved, how much you haven\'t smoked and recent milestones. Very helpful for people who quit smoking and used to smoke at their computers... Helps out with the urges.

The Woflman prefers the ways of the ol'school. Yeah!
Click on Start, then Run. Type regedit.
Browse to the following key
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

qttask, Adobe reader). It's tough when you work with

Wolfman, that was not very good advice. What you suggest will only show programs that are going to start for the current user...
For a more thorough list of start locations, check out the following tutorial.
