Crazy Computer Crashes
There seems to be a problem with the driver. I might be in a game that takes up the whole windor, and suddenly my screen will go black, but it is obvious that the computer is still on. But it also occurs when i'm doing random things such as checking email, or simply attempting to turn on my computer. When this happens, the lights on my comp are still on, and their seems to be a light on in the background of the screen...if you know what i mean. After an encounter with this, i usually have trouble getting my computer to fully turn on again.
Additionally, when i try to turn off my computer it will not shut down unless manually do it. The computer goes as far as saying that it is shutting down, then will get stuck like that, or will crash and restart.
These are the specs that come with my computer.

Can you boot into safe mode??
Does it happen then?
What has changed recently...any new hardware...have you updated any drivers? any new software??
Have you overclocked you cpu??
Is this a laptop??
Do you have XP service pack 2 installed?

It happened with me 2 times:
1>when I had no antivirus, Some crap from the internet had corrupted the video drivers
2> Adding a DVD drive created some hardware incompatibility. I dunnow how as DVD drives shouldn't do this . ... but it did!
I suggest first go for a full virus scan. If you can't get anythnig, a reinstall may help. Sometimes the problem occurs due to some fault in installatioo as well.

A good first move would be to give it a thorough clean and make sure that all the fans are working properly. Reseat the memory and other cards and check all the connections are firmly in place.
Go into BIOS and Windows and turn off the screensaver and power saving options.
Make sure that you have the latest BIOS.
There is something in the back of my mind about some systems being unstable with 2Gb of memory or more (possibly more than 1Gb?) I seem to recall that there is a Microsoft fix for this?

hi all,
it look like is notebook:
http://www.i4u.com/article3873.html
and their manufacture site:
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/index.asp
maybe user manual will get handy for you to read: (put model D900k and download the manual)
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download.asp
Personally one part i found little bit suspicious is your memory.Maybe i am wrong but PC3200(200) ?not sure about this.guys any comments here?hmm just checked it and supports ddr400 and max 2gb of ram.
Will try to find specs for motherboard.
Personally if notebook don't like it as gaming box. Had similar symptom cos memory was not appropriate and overheating will be problem with notebook.
just reading little bit around.Do you have vista installed???or u upgraded to it?
just for your info guys:
regarding drivers:
The Clevo is a generic brand, often rebadged as Alienware, Sager, VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest etc. The correct drivers may possibly be available on their sites if you can "match the model".

Hi unvi$ible,
I spotted the 200MHz as well. I think that is just the multiplier factor? so 2x 200 = 400?
