i have taken down this suggestion to my computers

i had a problem once when i downloaded a mp3 song in my system but then i scanned my comp with kasphersky and sycclean and i got ride of those virus and i have been running the trail version of kasphersky for a month but its been over since 22 days ago and i was looking for a free edition on net and i think i have got nice ideas for that

as per the suggestions i m thinking of running a AVG and Ad-aware as this two of them are good combination as i think and secondly it suites my budget whichis = "0"

Hope to get this great suggestion and link from the experts of "AO"

Well Avast is what I use when I am on Windows. This is a great one because :

    1. Its free.
    2. Its Light on the system
    3. A lot of customization
    4. Automatic updates
    5. Allows you to shut down just 'one feature' if you need it.
    6. Live net protection. Scans and detects viruses while they are downloaded and terminates connection of the malicious server.
    7. Keeps antispywares at ease. Most of the time, I do not get a warning from defenderas Avast tells me beforehand!
    8. Works with Vista without problems.

Well, I like the interface as well (considering its free)!

    Avast:

    http://www.avast.com/

    AVG:

    http://free.grisoft.com/

You can run them both, but if AVG opens something, Avast will generally complain first

In general theory you should only run one interactive AV and one firewall at any point in time.

    Zone Alarm (free firewall):

    http://filehippo.com/download_zonealarm_free/

    ThreatFire (free firewall)

    http://www.threatfire.com/

See, I have two options for the firewall thing:
1> Kerio Personal Firewall. A very good free firewall to stop you from remopte and local code injection,. protect from automatic program manipulations and autoruns. Can act as a bandwidth monitor and is good at creating rules for packet filtering.

2> Zonealarm: Not as good as kerio but is still a very popular and free firewall. Offers very goood protection from the outside attacks on the computer.

Sygate is very good ... no longer freeware, I had saved the zipped file from when it was, and that's what I run with XP pro. Just using the Windows firewall with Vista, as I've yet to find a free firewall that works!

    Hi Moira,

Avast is supposed to, including the free version:

    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-antiv...ows-vista.html

For the free Zone Alarm for Vista you need to go here:

    http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...scription.html

    EDIT:

    Or this (Vista 32-bit):

    http://www.pctools.com/firewall/?ref...FRoGEgodlWYecg

Or this add-on to the Vista firewall:

    http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...scription.html

I recommend avast for your antivirus and Comodo personal firewall. Both are free and Comodo has done very well for me. Here is a list of firewalls and their scores in various leak tests...
