    Hmmm,

What sort of image files are they, and are the images themselves back & white or greyscale?

    EDIT:

    1. You will probably have to convert your image to B&W/Greyscale first.
    2. Select full disk and import your picture/crop it.
    3. If you are using "Nero Essentials" replace it with something decent

    Well,

If I was going to do a lot of it I would use Nero 8 full version (you can get a trial).

However that isn't your current problem.

    1. Select a picture in .jpg format and copy it.
    2. Convert it to grayscale and adjust contrast etc.
    3. Move it to your image project
    4. Crop it to size
    5. Add whatever

You may notice that if you use a regular B&W printer to print colour images, they often don't come out very well? I don't think your software is even that sophisticated, so you need to go through a separate monochrome conversion and enhancement process/step

In any event I believe that we need to confirm or rule out that angle?

I don't know what you use for imaging manipulation and conversion, but if you are having problems try this (free) application:

    Pardon?

    My comments are pure K.I.S.S.

    1. If your image generator (camera/scanner) does not use a conventional format or file header (including the file extension) , then your software won't recognise it.

    2. If your label creation software application does not automagically convert colour to grayscale, then the burner software won't handle it.

Following my recommendations will at least eliminate these fundamental issues

Actually the thread is about producing a label on a CD/DVD. The actual technology may be laser burning, but it still depends on the SOFTWARE to work. That means that the fundamental issue is as I have described.

Also, there are such things as "laser printers"............. we actually have those in the United Kingdom.

EDIT: What I am saying is I think that this is more likely to be a software issue than a hardware one, given that it burns the text OK, so we might assume that it is burning properly.
