    Hi guys,
I am getting a motherboard that supports DDR2 ram. I have no idea about what to get. Any recommendations?
I am currently using Intel D101GGC board.
    Thx!

Well, if you don't mind me saying so, this is a rather strange question.

Normally you decide whether you are either:

    a) Upgrading an existing box
    b) Building a new box

Then you look at what your budget is and what your priorities are. It is rather unusual to decide on the RAM first, normally that would be the processor, then the motherboard to support and complement whatever else you want to add.

Personally I would look at this one:

    http://www.gigabyte.co.nz/FileList/N...le_09_p35c.htm

But I am afraid it will be rather expensive. (OK around $160~$180 shipped)

Other manufacturers of reasonably high end boards are Asus, and Abit. There are several others but I don't use them personally so won't comment.

At the budget end you have ASRock which I have used with no complaints in the past.

A lot depends on what you intend to use the machine for, and what operating system you are going to use.

If you give us some more information along these lines we could probably advise you better.

Don't forget to look for a suitable power supply.

Hmm thats a 775 socket if I am not mistaken which means any new board will really do since they all have ddr2... But as Nihil was saying, if you built this box before ddr2 was introduced you may want a new chip as well.

    That's a good point oofki,

Yes, his current board is an LGA775, so he must have a Pentium D, a Pentium4 with HT, or a Celeron D. So, unless he wants to upgrade the processor as well, he needs to look for a solution that supports LGA775, and his processor model.

    Here is one from ABIT:

    and one from Gigabyte:

I am guessing that he has a Pentium D.

Personally, I find the idea of a MoBo and memory upgrade on its own a little unusual.

Another thing is that the existing MoBo has onboard video, so unless he has a stand alone video card already or intends to buy one, he will need to take that into consideration.
