Hi everyone

About 25,000 people die every day of hunger or hunger-related causes, according to the United Nations. This is one person every three and a half seconds.

I believe that most of you have already heard about FreeRice, a site that gives 10 grains of rice to the UN for donation for every word that you match to its meaning correctly. If you haven't, see http://www.freerice.com/

I know this is not very moral. It's not very right to "abuse" the advertiser's advertising revenue in this way, but in my own personal opinion, I'd rather be an Internet Robin Hood. There's no statement mentioned in the TOS / FAQ of FreeRice regarding a bot anyway... So, I posted this in my latest blog post, but it's so socially beneficial I think that it would be best to publicize it even further - a FreeRice bot. A user from HackQuest (my site) has written a script to automate the clicking process and learn all the words and their meanings that it goes through. I took the liberty of grabbing the code, modifying it just a little and running it to harvest the FreeRice database.

The result is comforting - it achieves 100% efficiency for the level 40 words. However, it seems that the lower level words are not captured in their entirety. But no matter - within a few seconds, the script should have reached level 40 in the vocabulary level (through my own testing - you shouldn't be able to see this when you run the script) and you will be running it at 100% efficiency level.

I am able to average 50grains of rice per second (5 words) for each thread I open. Opening 10 threads will allow me to get 500 grains of rice per second. Multiply that by 60 and you get 30000 per minute, 1800000 per hour and 43200000 a day - that's 10800kg of rice a day for the poor people in the world. Multiply that by the number of people running this script - world hunger might just end! Just joking. Smile It's a naive thought, but fun to think of all the same.

So let me cut the crap and get on with it -
See http://altblog.searix.net/index.php/...e_free_rice_ii for details (and digg it to let more people know about it!)

Some extra notes
1. You need a web server + PHP + cURL extension + MySQL installed
2. If you donít have any of the above, try getting a free webhosting plan to run it on
3. The database is not entirely complete.
4. Another site you might want to check out - http://www.thehungersite.com/

Help end world hunger!!
