Motherboard Nightmare
Hi folks,
got myself a new bag full of bits to build anew system.
Elite acs board.
AMD dual core processor
2bg ddr2 533 ram
sata drive
dvdrw
I have not installed any pci cards or anything else.
When I switch on it beeps continuously.
I have reseated everything and removed individual components. I have changed the ram strips and tetsed them elsewhere.
The BIOS is award and the chipset is nvidia.
I cannot stop the thing from beeping. HELP

Can you describe the beeps? How the beeps beep should tell you what's going on. i.e. Single beep? Two quick beeps then one long beep? And so on...
And do you have the manual for that board? I presume not since you're working with bits and pieces here...

The little connectors for the power button, hard drive light etc did you connect them in the right places and in the right way?
If in doubt then crack open the motherboard manual, and check with the manual and the way that the connectors are currently connected.

Check that everything is seated properly, particularly the memory sticks.

I am assuming that you meant Elite ECS Motherboard. what's model number for the MB? If you need the manual you should be able to find it here.

as he can switch it on, it implies that the pwr lead has been fitted
but 'Shifty' if you could tell us how far along the boot cycle you are getting ?
can you access BIOS screen ?
does it beep as soon as power is applied ?
and to restate from AK, what is the frequency / scale of the beeps ?
luck to you
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

I would try the following:
1. Power up with just the MoBo and CPU.
2. Add RAM
3. Add DVD drive
4. Add HDD
When do the continuous beeps start?
Also, what are you using for video?

Well, it turns out that it is indeed the ram. Which is what the post beeps mean.
Continuous short beeps. Despite the fact that it states in the manual you do not have to use both ram slots I have now installed ram in both and it works perfect.
I suspect either a misprint or maybe even the wrong manual. Perhaps the manual covers a couple of variations on the board, but it doesnt seem to add up to me.
