    Patch Tuesday Nightmare MS07-069

Because I still like some of you, I will let you in on a horrible fact that many poor people are experiencing right now.

MS released this patch with a DLL that shouldn't have been included. The result? If you have an XP SP2 box with IE 6SP1 you may get a crash condition when you go from a HTTP to HTTPS site. Google Gmail is a sure way to test this problem.

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
    urlmon.dll, version 6.0.2900.3231, fault address 0x0003b5ce.
This is the issue. Notice the urlmon.dll reference.

Fortunately, I found a fix. Merge this reg value and reboot. Presto. Fixed.

    FU Microsoft!

That's a HECK of an oops!

    Thanks TH!

Are there any actual pros to this latest patch? And I presume no problems with IE7?

This appears not just to affect IE 6...

I was having some serious issues last night at home with pages "unable to display".....was blaming my ISP....appears that it may be this issue instead....finally just gave up...

Hi, I have a similar error but not for IE.

I have my own custom windows service, I am using the windows server 2003 OS.

Whenever I call it, it throws some exception and in the event log, I see two entries every time, here are the details:

    Entry 1:

Faulting application myWindowsService.exe, version, stamp 4782245a, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.2919, stamp 462648ba, debug? 0, fault address 0x00015e02.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

    Entry 2:

An unhandled exception ( 'System.TypeInitializationException') occurred in myWindowsService.exe [3688]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: Debugger could not be started because no user is logged on.

Check the documentation index for 'Just-in-time debugging, errors' for more information.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
Can you please help me with it? Will the above solution for IE, also work for this one?

Thanks a lot. I really need to solve this error.

I suggest you start your own thread from scratch, as I does not look (to my inexperienced eye at least) that your problem is related to the one in the original thread. That was basically a flaw in an MS update of a while back.

Your problem seems to be something to do with myWindowsService.exe, about which, unfortunately, I know nothing

Incidentally, your links both go to MS query pages rather than any further information?
