Vista not seeing data on CD-R/DVD-RW.
I just recently noticed that my Vista Ultimate machine is not recognizing data on either my CD-R or DVD-RW drives. I will insert a disk WITH programs, backups, etc on them...and nothing. Windows asks me if I would like to format the "blank" disc in the drive. WTF? What makes it more intriguing is if I open up "Run" and type the path to the installation file on the particular drive it runs and THEN shows the disc as existing as itself on the Vista equivalent of "my computer'.
For example, I have a game disc that I needed to reinstall from. I inserted it and Vista sees nothing. I open "Run" and type "E:/LaunchBOPC1.exe" and not only does the installer run, but Vista then sees the whole disc and the contents of it. WTF?!
Drivers are all current on both drives, and autorun has been dillegently tinkered with. No help there. Is it just a hiccup on Vista's side before the big SP1, or are there other things that I could do to get some relief?
EDIT: This applies to all types of discs with all types of files on them...program discs, storage (photos and the like) discs, etc. When I point to a specific file on any of them, the disc is instantly recognized. Weird.
