I need help someone broke into my account

So I woke up this morn to sign into my account and I could not log in.

I changed all of my passwords for everything I could think of-- but the weird part is that the person also edited my blog leaving a message on it for me to contact them at my old email address promising to return all password information, you can read the message at : http://grimwomyn.blogspot.com

According to a visitor tracker on my website the blog was edited off a server in Egypt at 7pm EST last night.

What do I do now? I know that this isn't the best place to post this-- but I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction to solve this---

I have contacted both gmail and hotmail. And I am waiting for their answers...

Please, you can email me off list--
    Thanks.

Do you have Antivirus installed, if so, do a full scan in safe mode, if not GET ONE.
Are you firewalled? If not, GET ONE.
If you do any online banking with the computer, contact you bank ASAP.

Sounds like you might have been phished. Have you had any emails or IMs lately that prompted you to click a link, then login to something?

I did not click on any wierd emails....

I have an apple computer- so I am pretty sure I didn't get anything....

I contacted the FBI-- it looks like the blog was edited at 7pm last night from Egypt

An Apple will in no way, form, or fashion protect you from phishing or reduce the likelihood of it happening. Don't let a Mac give you a false sense of security. Even running Linux, you still have to be aware of possible security risks.

    AK...is right

a MAC isnt gonna protect you from a phishing scam

also I know far too many people the use the same password for everything..

meaning once that password is compromised...so are all the accounts

I agree. This sounds like a phishing attack. Or perhaps a MS remote exploitable vulnerability, assuming of course that you are on Windows and do not have a firewall.

Wolfy, she is evidently on a Mac, so The Wolfman's Windows vulnerability wouldn't be applicable here. But The Wolfman makes a good point nonetheless.

    So a humble question then

In all of your expertise, what do you think of the Earthlink Mail system?

I know from friends of mine that have their system that sometimes new emails have problems getting through-- but other than that.. pretty solid?

    Thanks-priscilla

also I know far too many people the use the same password for everything.
With todays password recovery, having the same password for everything matters very little. I say this because "most" users who register for things such as online banking, myspace, or in this situation a blog all use the same email to register each one. Anyone who knows how to change a light bulb can figure out that instead of trying to crack into each one it would be easier and more efficient to just get the email, then request forgotten passwords on all the sites, sit back and wait...

My advice and assumption are the same as everyone here, contact everyone you do business with online, forget your current email address, and change all your passwords/security questions. Those phishers can be tricky, it is a quick and efficient way of getting passwords...

as for your question about email, all pretty much the same... unless you pay for it, then research. (most storage available, tech support, etc..)

next time be more careful when you go to log into something...
