Server 2008 Release == Server 2008 Service Pack 1
This is a much better title (Don't get it?? Read my MS07-040 Revised! thread).
Anyways... I learned something very interesting today (My blog post on the subject is here)
Since Server 2008 and Vista share a code base, and Server 2008 shipped at the same time as Vista SP1, Server 2008 Release is actually Server 2008 SP1 and the first service pack release for Server 2008 will be SP2 (when Vista SP2 comes out).
OS Versions:
Vista Ultimate Release: 6.0.6000 N/A Build 6000
Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1: 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001
Server 2008 Standard Release: 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001
More details
Note: I debated if this should be in MS Security Discussions or not... I put it here because the reason that it is Server 2008 SP1 is because of SDLC and Microsoft's commitment to security.
