Cant boot with solid state drive?

I just got a 2GB solid state drive (i'm planning on using the machine as a file server with the ssd drive holding the OS running linux). I purchased it mainly because i'm concerned with heat. This is the one i have http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/21...LASH_DISK.aspx and i have an 44-pin to 40 pin adapter. I have it on a ECS NFORCE6M-A motherboard (http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...ID=46&LanID=0).

When i have it plugged in the system wont boot at all, the only way i can get the system to boot is disabling Onchip IDE channel0 in the bios, and when i do that the bios doesnt see the drive. Anyone have any thoughts as to why it wont boot with the drive plugged in?

Did you try flashing the bios to a newer version? Have you checked to see if your motherboard supports a SSD? Have you tried changing the boot options to your SSD? When you say it doesn't boot, have you looked in the bios at all to change the settings or are you just powering the computer on?

Anyone have any thoughts as to why it wont boot with the drive plugged in?

IDE cable plugged in the wrong way around as in pin1 on the wrong side?

Cables are good, I cant find anything that states that the motherboard does or doesnt support ssd. I also tried it on another computer and it wouldnt boot as well. I should mention that when i say boot i mean that it doesnt even get past post (screen stays black). The only thing that i can think of is a bad drive

A bad adapter maybe, but not a bad drive. What other trouble shooting have you done?

I've tried 2 adapters (i thought that it was the adapter at first), several ide cables, various jumper settings, umm.... think thats it

I checked on the motherboard and also didn't see anything about supporting SSD. I'm just curious, but why do you need an adapter? Have you tried just using the cables it came with?

It didnt come with a cable.

I just emailed support for transcend, hopefully they will have a solution

I got a weird thought, a little off topic but... The only reason i'm using a ssd is because this machine is going to be a file server and i will have lots of hard drives and i'm worried about heat, take away 1 drive, 1 less thing to worry about. Now what if i dont use any internal hard drives for the OS (all for data) and booted off the network?

So... I would install the os on a hard drive, copy that image to another server and set it up so that it boots off the network to that image. Would that even work? Performance issues... i know it would take a while to boot, not to worried about that, but would i run into other issues? My network is a 100MB based network, and i would probably have to get some more ram (only have 512, 1GB would be nice)
