Yahoo Messenger abnormal termination

Hello everyone! I have a problem with Yahoo Messenger, be it any version.

What hapens is, when i give it the login details, it doesn't respond for sometime, then it quits.

It does stay in the tray though.

I uninstalled it, then again installed the latest version.

Still the problem persists.

my pc is running Windows XP service pack 2

the yahoo is the latest version, i think its version 8

now i see that when i ckick something else, like menu, then also it freezes.

and its staying on the desktop, as a running process right now.

is something wrong with the registry?

or is there anything else , like some other software which has hampered the operations of the Yahoo Messenger..
