I'd say it depends on where you are in your life/career. Are you still in high school? College? Already have a college degree? Already in the job market? What are you looking for: a college education, or certifications? Where are you located? ...

There are dozens and dozens of career paths in IT. Entry level stuff includes stuff like:

    - general PC Repair (which gives you a good feel for hardware)
    - creating web sites
    - network installation (gives you a good feel for routers, switches, servers, and how everything connects)

and dozens of others I'm sure.

Dude you got an engineering degree? Stay the hell out of IT. You'll thank me in the long run.

Short list of reasons to stay the hell out of IT:

I sent an email to someone some where - can you get it back? I sent it last week
my son/wife/brother is in IT and he says you should [stupid remark] to your server
I just deleted my H drive, I thought I was deleting the public folder - Oh wait, can you restore both
The new director of sales wants full access to the finance drive
maintenance was testing the fire suppression system and half of your data center is out of power
NTLDR is missing or corrupt, what does that mean
email, web, file server, the Internet is down
listen not even Chuck Norris can divide by Zero. Stay far away from IT - Live a happy life. You really don't want to learn how STUPID computer users can be.

The governor of California can............ but, like myself, finds that the solutions are infinite

Lmao...I must know, is this fiction or fact? Either way it had me rolling.

To OP: look into Cisco certs and CISSP. And I also agree w/ dinowuff. 'Tis why I have a degree in psych and I'm pursuing a Juris Doctor even tho I'm working in an IT call center.

Unfortunally it's true. I know this is the Internet, but there is no way in HELL anyone could make that up.
