    quick network question

    Hi all

    Hope all is well.

I connect my home network via a router through ethernet. No usb.

Now if I want to use pppoe connections, i.e dialup to the internet instead of using my lan how do I do this?

I create a connection to dial up but how do I turn off my my router settings? Also , will the other computers still be able to surf or will I have to setup internet connection sharing on them? Also will the VM's be able to surf?

    Sorry first time doing this.

I want to do this because it is easier to change between accounts, instead of logging into the router and swopping out account names. I always forget the username and passwords.

What is the best way to go with this?

    THanks.

In the early days of ADSL over here we had to connect using a PPTP "dialup". The modems were pretty simple back then..

Not sure if this would work but you could try removing all the PPPoE or PPPoA connections in your modem. The modem itself used to have a 10.0.0.138 address. Set your computer to 10.0.0.150 and setup a PPTP dialup with your account.

I know the speedtouch type modem/routers should still be able to work this way.

I assume your talking Windows XP/Vista..

    In Internet Options...Connections
    Setup your Dialup account..
If you want LAN access Plus Browse via dialup.. "Always Dial my Default account"
This will force your PC to only use Dialup for internet connections..
    on the other hand..
If you wish to have no LAN access.. set to "Dial Whenever a network connection is not Present"
Guess what you do here.. disconnect your network cable.. force a renew
try to connect to the web..

May not be exactly what you want..
