    ATM Skimming 2008

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3qK46L2b_c

ATM skimming isn't new but this brings it to a whole new level of ease. The suggestions put forth at the end are simple but likely good defenses against this kind of activity if you can't see whether they are there or not.

    You know what's scary.

After reading this post yesterday, I now have enough information on not only where to purchase the hardware needed to read and write the magnatic info, but how to effectively use it.

    All for under $2,000

Aren't I glad that my cards only have magnetic information stored on them

    < is blaming spell checker

Anyway: Point is I think this may become; or possibly is, a much bigger problem. I'm not saying I'm an idiot or anything, but going from knowing nothing what so ever about card readers, writers or what info in on the little magnetic strip to Knowing formats, field lengths, data types, hardware / software requirements. Even plastic dimensions within 24 hours? Hell If I can do that anyone can.

Hey, I was only taking the p1$$

Seriously, card readers and magnetic data are not that complex.... yes, I agree that it is disturbing, but the slimeballs have known about this for years?

The expression "carding" might be familiar?

    Speaking of which:

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-100...ag=mncol;title

DarkMarket was an online forum for "carders", those who buy and sell stolen identities and credit card information online. The site was recently made public with the arrest of "Chao," a Turkish criminal who allegedly stole personal information from devices mounted over the card slots and keypads of ATMs.

In a story on Monday, Wired revealed DarkMarket's primary operator "Master Splynter" to be J. Keith Mularski, a senior FBI agent. Wired credits Südwestrundfunk, a German radio network, for first reporting that the DarkMarket site was operated by the National Cyber Forensics Training Alliance (NCFTA) in Pittsburgh.
