I have really messed up my explorer actions...

i was doing some desktop customization and somehow i got my explorer into a weird state...

it started when double-clicking folders on the right pane of explorer opened up a cmd window instead of drilling down...

then i started playing with control panel->folder options->file types... i messed around with drive, folder and file folder...

i also went into the registry to delete some of the new actions i had created (since you can't seem to delete inside file types)...

and so the long and the short is... i need to figure out what the normal actions should be for these guys...

i know i want an explore action on all three (right?) but how do i create this explore action? when i hit "new" it asks me to name an action and name a program... i tried putting "explore" in action and "explorer.exe /e"

any thoughts?

You forgot to tell us your OS and SP level?

Assuming Windows XP or Vista, have you tried a re-installation to your last known good one? As in restore point?

I know it sounds unrelated to your problem, trust me. Download and reinstall/install Internet Explorer 7...l.it worked for me when the exact same thing happened. Let me know how it goes....

I am running XP SP3.

I found another site discussing this problem...

and tried out their quick fix of running this off the run prompt:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

and everything is back to normal! whew.

it turned out that my declaration that the regsvr32 command i mentioned above worked was premature...

i still had issues with shortcuts to my recycle bin and my control panel...

but after running the regedit files from the above site, i can say with certainty that everything is back in working order...

Stupid question. I see scr files it defaults it back. Now if you have malware which changes your desktop background, will this work?
