bios password

Hi All,
Friend of mine gave me a desktop dell optiplex gx 270 which he bought second hand.
When i try to boot it bios password options comes up.
I have tried to reset the bios just taking battery out for a few minutes, but that didn't work, so i left it at that.
I went and search little bit about this and it look like lot of people have a same problem when it comes to dell bios password removal.
Any of you guys have any experience with it and any suggestions?
i didn't have much time to play around it and will do tomorrow but if you have some options to explore please post it.

Have you tried clearing the password by using the clear password jumpers on the motherboard?

no as i did not have time tonight to play around, but from the search i got the info i can try that.there suppose to be 3 pins with bios or psw tag on them and they placed close to cmos battery.will try that tomorrow.

Yes....look for pins on the motherboard labeled rst or reset, or even "power". A good accurate bet is to search for the model manual or actually read Dell's support forums. I'm confident you will accomplish your mission.

i had little bit more time today to try to solve this.I have bypassed bios password by removing batery for a while.
(bios password was set up by company who he bought it second hand)
Funny part was once i fixed my first obstacle, xp windows had administrative log in.
(required password).
I started thinking this friend of mine doesnt like me
This type of dell i s desktop and doesnt have anything to reset psw, bios on motherboard.(model 270).
Now i will pull it apart and use the spare parts.
I am one of this morons who fix all friends pc problems supplying parts too for free.
i found i have more friends that i tought.i am sure samo ofyou will recognise yourself in my story.

No amount of BIOS password resets will clear that one. Just pop in an XP install cd, remove the existing partition(s) and reinstall from scratch.

Or just ERD Commander or something similar to change it.

For lost passwords, you could google for a linux password recovery boot-up cd image. The tool you requesting I have for situations when the network people somehow ship a new server but magically forget the login passwords to save their jobs. not!

Pull the drive out and change the jumper settings to slave. Then put the drive in another machine, boot up the computer and access the drive.

If you need to take ownership of the contents of the drive and google for ways to change the password for the admin account.

But yeah the BIOS password might cause some issues.
