Talking Microsoft says next Windows won't be as annoying

    Doubtfull but we'll see

The next version of Microsoft Windows, the software that defines the computing experience for most people, will nag users much less than its much-maligned predecessor, Vista. PC users will be able to test the new edition early next year.

Vista had everything right. It truly changed the landscape, as far as what you could get away with locally.

People are under the impression that implementing a least privilege user account is purely for offices and libraries. SCREW WHAT THE USER WANTS!

Anybody know when the beta testing opens to the public?

Microsoft Corp. today said that it would expand testing of Windows 7 to the general public in early 2009.

As it told attendees at its Professional Developers Conference (PDC) in Los Angeles that they would receive an alpha edition of Windows 7 later today, Microsoft also said that it would issue a public beta of the Vista successor early next year.
The beta will be available to anyone for download, Microsoft said, according to several real-time blogs covering the event, including one at LiveSide.net where several noted Windows bloggers collaborated.
Previously, Microsoft said it would solicit beta testers using its normal process of gathering names from its Connect.com site.

The coolest part of Vista was taking what Enlightenment can do on a 433MHz Celeron with an 8 MB video card and 192 MBs of RAM running Slackware 10.2 and make it require a 128 MB video card and a gig of RAM and a much faster processor.

I don't care if anyone thinks that's unfair or thinks Windows has to do other things to pull this off. My Wife's machine runs Vista, and an OLD machine I have here runs Slackware and E-17 with the hardware I gave above. Mine can not only run the same special effects, I can make the bottom of the screen look like fire and give a snowing and raining with clouds special effect, and at the same time turn on X-Snow for even more, and mine still lags LESS.

Have to admit; there is something funny about that.
