push emails to another account
i need a work around so i can get emails at work
i do not want to do anything dodgy
work has now turned of all ports appart from 80, 443 and may be 25 (they got a bit edgy when i ran wireshark, fport so not sure about 25 but email have to leave the building somehow!?)
at home i have
abyss webserver running (duel booting win xp home and linux) on port 80
webmin for windows and linux (windows not all functions working) on port 443 (so can access it from work)
and tight vnc on port 25 (which i am happy to loose if needed)
is there a way my home pc can
a) collect emails from other account and
b) send them to my work address?
(just to add more layers to the cake work love M$ products and things like outlook, i use opera and have mr postman running to collect emails from the outlook server)
i hope this makes sense it's my birthday and have had a few ales and loads of cashews!!

Ok, I'll bite.

Ok, so first, you say you need a "workaround" to get e-mails at work.
Then, you say you don't want to do anything "dodgy".
Ok, good so far...
THEN, you say that your workplace has blocked ports in such a manner that would normally keep you from sending e-mail to external sources, such as Yahoo, or G-mail (probably to keep idiots from sending corporate secrets, accidentally e-mailing sensitive information, etc to an external source). Using this information (and because you didn't post enough information, such as your occupation in this company), I can also assume that they've also blocked e-mail from external sources from coming INTO the corporate network. If it was me running the network, I would. So, here's where I would have a problem helping you with your request.
You see, when a corporate entity blocks access to or from something on it's network(s) or on the internet, they usually have a pretty good reason to do so. In this case, any reason could be, for example, limiting the attack vectors of viruses, trojans, and other assorted crap that would normally propogate themselves through e-mails. Limiting access to internal e-mails only (I assume your company has internal e-mail) is an extremely easy way to keep your company from getting infected with around 95% of whatever shouldn't have been on its network(s) in the first place.
Then, you say that the IT people got "edgy" when you ran wireshark (a packet sniffer/network analyser for those who don't know). This leaves me to assume that you're NOT in the company's IT department, and, as such, shouldn't have been running ANYTHING remotely to do with network analysing or ANYTHING remotely to do with modifying whatever computer settings your company has in place at the moment.
The rest of the information in your post is mainly twaddle and pointless, because I doubt anyone on here is going to help you anyways (btw, XP Home edition dual-booting with linux running a web server? LOL).
Here's my advice. Uninstall wireshark, and uninstall anything else that could be construed (or even MISconstrued) as anything that could test your company's network defenses (port scanner), test security (Nessus), or anything else that could change the way your company has set up their systems. Since you're not in the IT department, you shouldn't have access to any of that. In fact, if I were in your company's IT department, I would not only have revoked your internet privileges, I would have given all users limited accounts on their machines so they couldn't install ANYTHING in the first place.
In short, stop trying to "workaround" your company's security defenses. Leave that to the professionals. Like me.

you are absolutley right in what you say
although this was a bit harsh (btw, XP Home edition dual-booting with linux running a web server? LOL)!! what is wrong with having xp home?!!
no i am not in it dept
the 'wireshark incedent' occured when there was a change over of it heads and policy's
i have already, as you suggested removed all inflamitory software
if i re word what i want to do might give a better understanding
lets say my work email address is me@work.com
but i also have another email addres other@home.com
what i wanted to do was collect emails to other@home.com on my home pc and forward them to my work emial address
that should not be classed as too 'dodgy'
i do not have outlook which i think would do this?
just wanted to know if it is possible and if there is any suitable software
any way
thanks for biting
hope this clarifies the situation

On the mail server ...your account settings..... you should be able to either redirect or forward the mail to your work account.

morganlefay is right, depending on your provider it will be in your settings when you log into your email... Another option (which is what I do) is to do the above mentioned and then setup email on your cell phone for the collected address, that way you don't have to try and pull a fast one on your work computer which could result in being fired Obviously this works well on phones that support email, like a smartphone.

To forward e-mail, you still need a certain port open to receive the forwarded e-mails. I'll let him work out which port or ports he needs to look at. He's saying that his company's blocked all that.

you are saying that said company doesnt have any external email???
Then of course it wont work....but whether an email is forwarded, redirected...should not change what port the email is recieved on....??? A new hearder is created and unless the domain from which it is being forwarded\redirected from is blocked....it should get through to the end recieptient.
Now content and attachments may be another thing altogether due to filtering

no work can accept any external emails sent to my work email address
this inculdes all nigerian fishing scams, spam for viagra, 'your bank details have changed send us your account password' and occasionally something work related!!
until recently you could have your own email account alongside work email so when you clicked the 'get email' button you could get both sets of email.
now you can not
thing is i use my personal account for work too so i can miss important emails
so i just need a method of getting them into my mail box
oh and i will say this but you will say well use this then you fool
i can access my personal webmail from work but takes ages and hard to download attachment......... plus my isp is intending on using phorm and that is really bugging me so i do not like to use webmail
hope this helps

Well if truely as you say you receive work emails from home...then you need to discuss with HR and IT this situation.
I can see no need for you to download attachment sent to a personal account for work.
I wouldnt allow it either.
Forward\redirect your mail...if your current provider cant do it...get another one that can.
