I cant send email with exim

    Hi all,
I have installed exim with all of its components.
    When I type:
    netstat -an | grep 25

I saw "TCP 0.0.0.0:25 LISTENING" and apparently everything is ok.
But when I use thunderbird and I set 127.0.0.1 as default smtp outgoing server it doesn't work and says connection failed. I don't use any firewall.
    I tried telnet:
    mail from:...
    (it says 250 OK)
    rctp to:myself@yahoo.com
    (it says ..accepted)
    data:
    ...
    .
    quit
and apparently the email must have been sent.
    But nothing is sent.
    In this link http://knol.google.com/k/wei-chen/em...7/3?locale=en#
it's mentioned that you must create a windows user for ex. if you wanna
send as aaa@bbb.com u must have a user called aaa........I did so but again the same result. Nothing is sent.
    Any help plz

If your on a residential account chances are your ISP is blocking port 25.

Try using the smarthost feature in your /etc/exim.conf.
You should be able to route mail through your ISP smtp gateway.
If they require smtp authentication you will need to ensure you use your ISP credentials. Post your /etc/exim.conf if you need more help.

Um.. from you connection there is realy no way to tell, you can either call them or look on their website for the info. Depending on how well they document things it may be easier to get the info by calling.

You should be able to route mail through your ISP smtp gateway.
You can do this however depending on the reasons you are trying to setup a mail server, the amound and type of mail you are planning on forwarding through your ISP's mail servers, may get flagged as spam, or at least set off their alarms. If their abuse department determins the mail to be spam (or unsolicited bulk email) you will more than likely get disabled. This is just a worse case scenario, as I used to work in an Abuse department and I hade no problems disabling people for SPAM
