    RIGHT CLICKING IS SLOW

    Hi Anti-Online members,

I got two colleagues who both work in different departments with different roles and files, but they reported the same problem.

When right clicking or double clicking any document i.e. PDF, EXCEL, WORD it takes around a minute until they get prompted for an option. Its just slow!

I read stuff about DDE and editing some registries but those were useless. We use a standard anti-virus. I removed one of the anti-virus clients from one of those computers but no improvement yet.

I would really appreciate any suggestions or advise?!

    Regards,
    W

Hey, removing the anti-virus wasn't the smartest move i guess.. Scan you machine online at either

    safety.live.com
    housecall.trendmicro.com

What OS do you use ? Is it patched ?

What is the AV you use ? Is it updated ?

Are these machines part of a domain.. or just work group.. what are the user rights on the machine for those users.. where were the objects (files) located ?

have you used any process explorer or even task manager to see what process are running to rule out a malware ?

Lot of things to need to check buddy before you can tea off..

anyway use the safety.live.com link.. it has an online registry scan to weed out any unwated reg key.. although i highly suspect that being the reason..

try a hijackthis log.. post it up it will help..

If you wanna learn you need to explore .. or you can just ask us..

    We're not Anti-Online though.

Are the files located on the actual machine or accessed via a server?

Could be some shell extensions misbehaving. You can try using ShellExView to disable some of the extra context menu handlers.

    Hey ByTeWrangler

I re-installed the anti-virus afterwards though! I just wanted to check it would not be the cause, you know?! I thought it was scanning the docs before starting them etc.

And yes we are part of a domain and not workgroup. Means we have Map drives and files being accessed remotely. But that does not make a difference with our situation.

Let it be local documents or hosted on a remote machine/server those two colleagues face the same problem.

I thought it might be something to do with the shell extensions. I will try for it today, because when I manage to open any document it is much faster to go to File>Open>target document than pointing to the document and starting it.

    Looking forward for your comments.

    Regards,
    W

I would recommend taking a look at Process Explorer, it can be found here
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx

This utility has saved me numerous times in locating a misbehaving program or damaged driver etc.
