    Cool CPU intensive antivirus

    I'm about to setup some antivirus on a domain for the domain controller as well as the workstations. What is a good economical low cpu choice? I've heared avg is the way to go or something called byteware??? Does anyone have any suggestions or some more infromation on these to products. What would be a good choice.

    If I remember right, that is server only stuff and is "bytware"............ IBM/AS400/AIX kind of stuff. It certainly won't run on clients with Windows. Well, I have been out of that loop for a while now, so you will need to check again.

    What operating systems are your clients and server running?

    AVG is OK........... also look at Kaspersky and PC-Cillin (Trend Micro) as they tend to be less demanding than your regular Norton & McAfee.

    I don't think that CPU is the problem, in the strictest sense...... it is usually RAM utilisation that causes the slow-downs.

    WE're running, windows xp clients with two windows 2003 domain controllers and microsoft exchange server 2007 on one.

    For my input you can try our solution which has an exchange feature. Panda for business with exchange.

    To be honest with you, LOW CPU isnt the issue as Nihil Said, you msut be concerned about RAM.

    I am looking at my task manager now as I am running the software on my desktop.

    I have all the settings possibly set on the coinfigurations for the desktop AV. Check the attached screenshot for indications.

    I have FF, winamp, Outlook and a custom program open and my CPU is sitting at 5 - 10 %.

    I guess my final question is:
    For example say i run AVG File Server Edition with 10 connectinos.Do i have to pay for the clients software or does the price for the server and the 10 connections include everything?

    AVG File Server license is a typical concurrent user based approach. You need to buy a server license to handle your estimated concurrent connections. This only runs on the server.

    Additionally you would want to buy desktop licenses for your workstations.
