    Exclamation Malware infecting ATM machines.

Would you trust your ATM ? The question itself is scary.

It's sad that ATM's get infected. With all the security measures that banks are "suppose" to have these articles prove otherwise. Here's a good aspect to this story

The main point is, really, how did the ATM's get infected in the first place? Physical access is mentioned (insider threat?), but I wonder: Would we see this kind of malware silently spreading through the banks private financial networks?

I only use ATM machine at my bank. I dont trust anyone else's. Probably a false sense of security, but I figure if I get hacked on their premises, they are gonna make me whole.

Also, I limit access with my ATM card to only my checking account which I sweep often and leave very little in.

Just noticed one of these mentioned Diebold. Heh. Has anyone else here ever seen that documentary about hacking democracy? They brought in two guys who proved they could make the machines they use as scanners, made by Diebold, display whatever they wanted, and make anyone they wanted to win. It's a neat documentary, and it started with some like older lady, who found the source for their stuff on some FTP server, and how the security check didn't get checked or something.

I remember a few years watching something similar to this. Not sure... Well cannot remember exactly but i'm pretty darn sure it was something else, but of a similar nature.

Strictly speaking those ATMs weren't infected. An insider placed the malware on the machines.

Get yourself some paper, and some crayon's...

Or grab a few bills, scan 'em and colour print them out

It's all a scam by the banks to get everyone to use a card to pay in shops...

Oh.. wait.. They're quite frequently skimmed too

Why don't we just get rid of this whole money thing altogether? There, problem solved

I will be out in the field with my hammer... and my sickle... :-P

I think I remember a documentary about Diebold, but it seems like it was made by Princeton university... and it was talking about the voting machines as opposed to ATMs. Still an interesting video. Scary
