    And to all our other SA members

    I just heard on our radio that they had a test between Telkom (the largest SA broadband provider) and an 11 month old carrier pigeon called Winston.

    Winston carried a 4Gb USB stick 60 miles in 1 hour 8 minutes, and the data upload took an hour. In the same time Telkom managed to deliver 4% of the data Of course there were rules for the contest:


    They included "no cats allowed" and "birdseed must not have any performance-enhancing seeds within".

    Ouch..

    But i feel that even with this embarassement the company still claims it's not there fault thus i cannot see this changing at all in SA..

    Someone on Slashdot made a good point... The carrier pigeon is only half-duplex...

    The question remains though... was it an African pigeon, or a European pigeon?

    It was a European pigeon. Pigeon racing is a big thing over here, particularly in my part of the UK, and the Brits spread the sport all over the Empire back in the day. Actually they are not true pigeons; they are domesticated rock doves.
