    Balancing network bandwidth

    Hello guys,

can u give me an idea on what to do on my network?
I have a 5mb E1 connection but dont know how to distribute this on eight (8) departments.
    Am using Cisco-Linksys Router RV042.

QOS or Quality of Service allows you to define how much bandwidth is allocated to each network device/resource.

How you would use this feature depends on how your existing network is configured. QOS is configured on the gateway itself.

Alternatively, you can use Layer3 switches to achieve a similar function, or even VLAN if your network supports it.

    Bandwidth manager = QOS.

Anything you want to do in regards to bandwidth must be configured on a hardware appliance either on the gateway device itself, or between the gateway and the LAN.
(it must be along the pipe between the LAN and the ISP)

Using software bandwidth management is useless unless you have an ISA/proxy server acting as a firewall to the LAN - and even then I would still recommend a hardware appliance to do the QOS.
