A beer to the person ...

A beer to the person who can solve this most irratating problem :P

Running 7 and I dont know how to configure this.

lets take skype for instance, I have an icon in my system tray which is cool HOWEVER it still displays a window or block (depending) how you set it.

I do not want it to display a window or block on my bar at the bottom, I would just like it to stay in the system tray or notification area depending on what you call it.

How do I set this! This also happens with other apps ...

IF you could help me I would be in your debt!

Damn this community is dead now.

Look for the "hide when minimized" option in the program in question. If the program creates a sys tray icon, it should have this option in its general settings... if not it is poorly programmed, which is all too common.

    cheers,

I know... it's like a ghost town... or ghost site, rather... a digital derelict floating silently on the seas of cyberspace... with a few spirits still haunting around...

It's sad really... I remember the good ol' days!

What do you think caused the sudden, ermmm, lack of interest I guess we could call it... in AO?

I spend a lot of my free time on computerforum.com lately... it's not nearly as informative as AO used to be, and it doesn't focus on comp sec, but at least it gets more than one post every other day :P...

Where have all the old AOers gone?

(...thinks about starting a new thread...)

PS - sorry, Cider - didn't mean to hijack your thread! Ermmm - ditto to what catch said.

Don't click the minimizing minus sign, just click the red X to close. When you do that with Skype it minimizes to this systray.

    OooOOoOoOOOoOoOo..... Boo!

What happens if you turn off the aero theme? Display properties, themes (i think) - then change it to windows standard/XP style.

[edit] After looking at the screen shot, try right clicking on the 'block' and unpin/remove from taskbar. [/edit]

Same story with aero off and unpinning it from the task bar.

I am running a version back from skype at work and its working correctly. so it seems the latest version doesnt seem to do this.

I will try the compatibility option. It sucks that alot of apps you have to run in compatibility.

    Thanks.

Yes, I think 7 was a little rushed to market because Vista obviously wasn't going to take off as planned.

OK I can't say that I have seen anything particularly untoward with 7 itself, but I think that some of Microsoft's partners were caught out.
