Solaris 8/9
Anybody have ANY idea where I could manage to acquire a set of CD ISOs for this?
Oracle killed all of the free Sun downloads for older releases of Solaris, and only has the DVDs of 10 and 11 now.
I have a SPARC with a CD drive...
Help a brother out...

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to HYBR|D again.
OMG I LOVE YOU
EDIT: Wait, I can only find software packages, where is the OS?

I was assuming those were the right packages so you can dwnld, compile your own OS..?
ftp://ftp.sunfreeware.com/pub/freeware/sparc/
I pretty much just assumed they were enough to .build the OS.
hang on.... Isn't it paid software? i am viewing an outdated cached version of the website and there saying US$95 for sparc CD's

Weird stuff happened during the last years of Sun.
They dove 110% into open source, free, etc... But then Oracle bought them.
I do have a license, I just don't have a CD to install from. No DVD on this machine....

NetBSD isn't an option i take it?
Curious what type of "older" hardware your needing 8 - 9 x86 for?

Not x86, SPARC.
I could run BSD, I currently run Gentoo on it.
Although, it turns out that it's no longer an issue. The cd drive took a dump. Have to get a DVD drive now.

Keep in mind that Solaris 8 has been end-of-life for a while now.
You may want to try FreeBSD, they have good sparc support.
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/IS...S-sparc64/8.2/
FreeBSD has very good ZFS support too

Oracle made the Sun Set.... They pissed me off. That's actually putting it mildly though; My Wife LOVES Sun... Hardware, SPARC, SunOS, Solaris, and they ****ed it up.
I happen to have a bunch of Solaris here, but Honestly no way of putting it up currently. My Wife has some Sun stuff including Solaris, and She also ordered me the Solaris DVD sets a couple of years ago before Oracle came along and made the Moon rise permanently.
I also have some Solaris stuff from years before that too, but anyway, have you tried out Ebay or Craigslist? Might sound odd but I'm pretty sure someone would have that and I doubt they'd want much for something like that considering the EOL is already over for 8 as far as I know.
Even though I Love BSD (Well, FreeBSD and PC-BSD, which is FreeBSD with a paint job) it's not Solaris. (Sun OS on the other hand, they are related)..

I loved Sun too, we have about 25 Sun boxes at work. Unfortunately we're currently working on moving our software over to Red Hat EL (yuk).
