For duplicate files I use Auslogics' Duplicate File Finder:

    thanks Nihil

Atleast it gives me the option to not install the 3rd party crap.

have you seen that btw? I think it was daemon tools that did it to me, drives me up the wall. hides the tickbox and bam, 30 million browser plugins

EDIT: No duplicates found ... i presume it uses Md5?

Cider; I saw that on that application... OMG it was annoying. I don't even use it, as I refuse to install it now.

Did you hear what happened with Nmap? Download.com was putting spyware and malware into the installer!

I mean seriously, it's ****ing sad! I don't quite know why anyone would download Nmap from there instead of the Nmap web site, but, I do understand totally that sometimes, you're downloading demos and things you want to try out and install, and you just think "Well, I'm already here, I might as well grab this tool as well" and then you get a bunch of ****.

    I couldn't Believe it.

I've heard about something along those lines, but I don't know if that was actually true or not.

Yes, I have never had any problems with either of those sites.

It does seem to be an unfortunate fact that more and more free apps come bundled with "luggage" you don't really want, or they try to reset your homepage and default search engine.

Well it has become very obscure. Basically you always must choose advanced installation to deselect the crap they put in. I feel this is unfair for basic users and its not ethical.

When a website is hosted with malicious / PUP apps , does it have to abide by the laws of the country its hosted in , or how does this work?
