BackTrack 5 R1 Release
So has anyone here been to BlackHat this year and tried the BackTrack 5 R1 release? The website doesn't seem to have too much information about what updates are going to be made to the distro. While I'm on the subject, I haven't seen a BackTrack thread in a while. Just out of curiosity, who here uses BackTrack, and what do you mainly use it for / what tools do you use?

No, I have not tried the BackTrack 5 R1 release. Is it any good?
[rant] I am still trying to figure out why BackTrack still will not acknowledge that they are using the dragon graphics without permission from the original author dragonkahn. I would be pretty pissed if someone borrowed/stole my graphics for commercial purposes without my acknowledgement.
If you are wondering which came first, the dragon graphic was created and submitted to deviantART about 4 years before BackTrack's initial release in 2006. [/rant]

^^^ Intersting tidbit Cope.
I have used BackTrack numerous times in the past, and i'm very suprised that i never heard anything about that.
Yet now i'm very curious to know why/how they are still able to use the image? I would of thought a C&D letter would of been sent off? At least royalty's be paid etc?
But then again copyright stuff confuse the heckles outta me.

BackTrack is NOT a commercial product. It's free and open source.
Their only product is training and services.
Real security doesn't come with an installer.

I never stated the product was a commercial product, I said the graphics were used commercially, you know, advertising a product with another persons graphics. It is not OK to use the graphics that are not your own without permission.

What I'm saying is that the use of that graphic would be covered under the fair use portion of the copyright law, since the graphic is not being used commercially.

Well whatever the legal standpoint is, the original creator of the graphic Sleek and Sporty is still upset with BackTrack for using his works without his consent.

This should be addressed, both parties should respond here, otherwise...no fun... :/
Every now and then, one of you won't annoy me.
