I've heard that some parts of these cookbooks, and sometimes the whole things, are sometimes 'jokes'... Some of the formulas aren't possible, and other projects are intentionally written down in such a way that doing them could lead to a very serious accident happening to the person mixing and lighting the stuff.
Basically, I wouldn't trust any of it to the extent of actually following the instructions. I'd check it out with a chemistry major or something.
