My personal belief is that neither side is correct.
I believe christianity, or any ancient religeon was created by some very smart people to assist in controlling early people. The basic rule of all religeon is "If you're good, you will be rewarded. If you're bad, you get punished." It's the perfect tool for governing, also why early rulers tended to be considered gods, or some religeous figure. Given the opportunity (left alone without rules) people in general are far too primitive to survive, we will killl, rape, hurt and do many nasty things without guidance. Religeon provides a control over people unequalled in any way. People dont do bad things because of fear of the favor being returned. In fact, good things are great to do because you will be rewarded. But now people have evolved (not in the sense of darwin, but just gotten smarter) that religeon is not the control it once was. Hence discusions like this. Freedom and exchange of ideas have eroded its effectivness. Now religeon is fading into a simple crutch of society that is used for support when they need it, but the rest of time its thrown out the window. No obviously this is not true for everyone the are many devout believers and i respect that, but there are far too many fake ones.
Now, on to the science. Its the best explaination we have for why we are here. But the main principle of science is nothing is certain. I personally find it hard to beleive that we are here by chance. High school biology teaches kids that a long time ago a bunch of compounds floated around in this organic soup combined with lighting and sun for energy and over the course of a billion years that they just *happened* to bump into eachother in the right way to create a living lump of organic material. Which just happened to divide, therefor becoming dominent over other lumps of organic material that could not divide. Eventually through natural selection and a hell of a lot more *just happened* scenarios (the number would have to be truely staggering to create us from the said lump of organic material) You, me and the average joe started up. People say religeon is the easy way out, i think (at the moment anyway) science is pretty easy too.
I personally believe that there is something that we could never ever comprehend that made... governes.... controls.... whatever word you'd like.... us. And i dont mean, a three year old cant comprehend algebra... im talking a blind person understanding color or what the universe would be like if we had 16 dimensions. I suppose you could say im taking the easy way out too, but its my way, my belief..... and thats what this discussion is all about, peoples beliefs.
