Easier said than done. I ran an old HDD from the comptroller's desktop thru a machine press and it barely cracked it (the platters looked intact...ugh). No one could believe it was as intact as it was. Nothing beats an industrial shredder in my book. A buddy of mine owns one (he shreds for the IRS). We threw his old laptop in there one day and it came out in 1/4" strips. That was amazing to see a shredded laptop.

Try "Wipe". It's on the Insert CD (Linux) among others.
