IE proxy chaining - Antionline Forums

I was doing some searching around to see if it was possible to chain proxies together in IE 6 without any support programs being required. I saw another post on antionline saying that is was possible using a IP:PORT IP:PORT type syntax with the last IP address having it's port number in the provided port box in IE for proxies. I tried this but it did not work.

I was wondering if anyone knew if this really worked and had been successful in using it. If so any help you can offer on what i'm doing wrong would be great. Thanks

example syntax i tried :-
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 80 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx |80|

Yes it dose actually i am doing it as i am posting this the syntax is
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx |80|

the 80 in the box being the last port number remember to put the : after the ip as your first ip address in your sample dose not have one and i dont know if this is a typing error or not.

What version of IE are you running where this works? Support for chaining was removed in IE6 IIRC.

I'm currently using Internet Explorer 6 as my web browser and I am able

to assist in hiding my idenity while I'm on the net. How? By simply

using these proxy servers from
http://www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html

Now to configure the browser for the anonymous proxy server.

220.65.128.4 8080 transparent South Korea

opening Internet Explorer click on tools, go down to internet options,

click on the connections tab, click on the button below LAN Settings

button, Place a check in use a proxy server for your LAN

This will enable you to enter data into the white fields provided in

the Address field you can type 220.65.128.4 port on 8080. Hit OK. Do

not place check in bypass proxy server for local addresses.

Click OK. Now go to a site like www.whatismyip.com or www.ipchicken.com

or www.ip2location.com and see your current location now it should say

something totally different. Heres a couple shots from my PC yesterday.

Cool post, but the only problem i have is that i already have a proxy server i HAVE to go through in order to get access to the net, so if i removed that i nothing works.

Could always use the anonymizers. Toss anonymizer in google and you'll most likely have several choices.

IE 6.0 sp2 and it works fine for me.

6.0 SP2 and chaining works? Interesting. I have yet to see anything other than a single proxy server recognized and used with 6.0.

Time to retest and post my results.

As I suspected, this does not work. The proxy field will only honor one proxy server. I placed 3 proxy servers in a chain and IE only used the first one. The proxy happens to be in Italy which is why when I went to Google, it threw me to the localized Google site. You can look at my attached screen shots for more details.

The first two are proxy settings pictures so you can see that I have more than one proxy defined in the chain. The third picture is a netstat capture showing that indeed I am only going through the first proxy in the chain (in Italy) and the last is a pic of the localized Google site in Italy.

Myth busted. Chaining does not work in IE 6 - period.

So has there ever been support for chaining proxies in IE or has it just always been people thinking that it works ?
