    Post Ethernet Network Card Problem

    Hey,

I have a friend who is trying to connect their Windows XP laptop to a wired ethernet network. The problem is when one connects an ethernet cable to the laptop and to the network and then one looks in Network Connections the connections just reads "Network Cable Unplugged" .

I am working on the assumption that this problem is being caused by a driver error. The current network card and driver are Intel(R) PRO/100 P Mobile Combo 5.41.22.0000.

I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

    Thanks in Advance,

    User0182

    Hi oofki,

    Is this what you mean?

    http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm

It is a fix for the LSP stack in Winsock2.

Or are we talking about a different tool?

    Try another cable??

    Can you ping another computer?

    Can you ping 127.0.0.1?

This should tell you if the NIC is working??

Check Device manager and make sure its not disabled.

    I'm having the same problem

I too have an Optiplex GX260 (mini tower). I keep getting an error saying cable unplugged (and have tried several good cables) .. so I disabled the integrated Ethernet and have tried 3 different PCI Ethernet cards (which windows (xp) reconized and installed the correct drivers. But I'm still getting the same error saying "cable unplugged" ... I have also tested the cables with other puters and they work fine. I'm not sure what winsock is (I used to know back when I was going to school for PC repair, but it's been years. I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give me with this so I can network my PC's together ... they both are on-line but one with a wireless PCI card (Optiplex GX260) and the other (Optiplex GX620) connected directly to my DSL modem via a CAT 5 cable. Thanks again (in advance) for any help/advice anyone can give. ... pc_addict

I tried winsockfix and winsockxpfix and neither one worked (except for adding some annoying seach program and add-on) but I got rid of that and even reinstalled window (update) and it said it found (and apparently fixed) 2 regestry errors, but it is still doing the same thing. It still says cable unplugged with either the integrated network adapter or a PCI card. ... Any other ideas that might help (without doing a complete install of windows xp, witch would cause me to lose all my programs) ... Thanx ... pc

I had to get a pci-e/pci nic and disable the onboard one.
Replaced with a cheap realtek one.
Kad on board nic's go belly up like that.
