VMWare 5 Beta Available --- Free Download

Hey Hey,

VMWare 5 Beta has been released and it's looking pretty sweet.

There's a new Team VM option to create mulitple VMs that run on the same private LAN segment...

There's also an option to create multiple snapshots and a new new viewer to browse them.

Anyways, check it out... the only downfall is that debugging is always on so your speed is decreased

However, there's a fix for this that I've found to work beautifully.

I've only used it on the linux VMWare

cd /usr/lib/vmware
mv bin-debug bin-debug.bak
mkdir bin-debug
cd bin
cp vmware-vmx* ../bin-debug

restart vmware... now you can go into your VM Options and turn off debugging if you so desire... I'm sure there's a similar method for windows

Peace,
HT

Hey Hey,

Just an update.

To disable debugging in Windows... Simply complete the following steps

Browse to your installation directory.

Rename bin-debug to bin-debug.bak
Create a copy of bin
rename the copy of bin to bin-debug

You're now good to go.

Peace,
HT

Ah , beautiful.

I absolutly love vmware, every time i use it i discover something more power or practical about it. Boot from ISO's / Whole Drives / Partitions / VDK Files. Have Multiple OS's running ()x=>3 . VMWare is perfect for testing aswell, because you can bridge the network, its easier to understand how a virus etc /worm os acting by placing a packet sniffer on the host OS.

Previous version didnt have the greatest support for Longhorn, but it was stated 'Experimental', so i wasnt expecting too much.

Will hopefully write a much mroe better review when download

shakenbake can only hope to improve
Thanks for letting us know about turning debugging off. When I installed it I converted my image(s) to the new format and was horrified about how slow the application ran.

Can anyone tell me has turning debugging off speeded it up to at least 4.5 standards? I can't test this right now.

Thanks.
