Windows XP boot disk error - Antionline Forums

I'm trying to install windows xp on a computer that can't boot from CD. I'm using some windows xp boot disks, but when it gets to the 2nd disk it says: "file \ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded, setup can not continue. error code 7." It says to press any key to restart the computer.

Anyone know what's going on?

you are trying to load XP

so the PC does NOT have XP on it

yet you are trying to BOOT it with floppy ??

or am I missing something

try and ascertain why CD is not working
can you get to BIOS
check settingd there
is it being detected

then load XP from a CD

Well these boot disks are made to install Windows XP on machines that don't support the "boot from cd" option. That's what i'm trying to do. My machine does not support the boot from cd option.

Hi kyrios I would suggest you get a Windows98SE 3.5" floppy boot disk and use that to get you to the installer from the CD.

Also, try going into "setup" on boot................ you may have an option............careful now, that is sometimes called "search for bootable media"............. usually the last one

Obviously, these are genuine XP CDs and in good condition?.........like clean?

EDIT: They are from the SAME CD set?........that used to be a real pig if you had several mixed up?

you are saying the boot discs are to load XP ??

FLOPPY boot discs ??

just to confirm

I make boot floppy after an install and store em IN the pc
but they are just to load the boot files
and the basic drivers

or, again, am I missing something

Hmmmm...............

When I say "clean" I forgot that this might be thought of differently by you guys.............

I mean no greasy finger marks, the two year old hasn't used it as a teething ring, and the dog hasn't urinated on it recently (actually, I think that it is bitches' urine..........like how it leaves those brown patches on your lawn?)

Like Foxy~ I put the recovery disks inside.............and I Cellotape (Scotch Tape) the Admin password in there as well

That takes me back to the correct disks?............... if I build an XP recovery disk, it will look for particular hardware?

each install has unique reference points which are loaded to the boot discs
and they do NOT load XP, they 'repair' the existing system

try to get the CD to boot

A quick question how did you generate the boot disk set?
Foxey as far as i remember that boot disks allow you to install windows xp.
I would suggest that you regenerate the disks using the cd. I forget where the program is on the CD but i will look tonight if noone else posts it. In windows XP you should have i think a four disk set. Dont forget to keep the cd in the drive when you are using the disks sometimes it helps for reason i never figured out.
