Custom avatar

I have a pretty stupid question. I must be blind, but how do I upload a custom avatar ?

I've been wanting to tell you (but putting it off, I don't know why)...but you have probably got the coolest avatar....where da get it?

I went for the creepiest, most gothic avatar I could find. Judging by all the comments I get about it, I would say I did a good job.
