OK: Here goes another of my newbie questions. I have norton clean sweep to help clean my puter junk. I manually clean out internet files and cookies. (WIN 98SE). Here is my Q: How do I open (index.dat) in my cookie file and where else does win98 store surf trash? Thanks, always....:thumbsup:

.The index.dat file can only be deleted in DOS and are included in your cleanup using the DELTREE command.

jiffyprogasm, the basic DOS command to show the contents of a file is type.

type index.dat will do the trick. edit index.dat is the same, but with a GUI...
Also check out debug index.dat. At the command line, type d to dump the file contents on screen. (Repeat as often as necessary ;) ).

I don't know why you want to 'open' index.dat in DOS, though... Using Wordpad in Windows will get you exactly the same...

Excellent post negative: I never realized that the wordpad would open the index.dat. I continue to learn at every visit to the site, thanks AO's:eek:
