Best Anti-Virus?

I am looking for a good anti-virus prog for my pc. I am running win98 and I was hoping for some advise. I am extreamly frugal(cheap) and was possiblily looking for a freeware one.

AVP (Kaspersky) is very good and they have a free evaluation versions

you can scan yourself for viruses online from norton for free but it's one of those if they find it they won't fix it but it's a good detector

I personally don't even use a virusscan becuase anti viruses are just ram hogs. But if you really want to get one get a good one. Norton is fairly good. If your really cheap you could find a "FREE" norton antivirus on some sites.

Personally I use norton at home. On my networks (work) I prefer norton's enterprise edition it has a killer interface, and allows for good control. It's nice to be able to push updates and lock users from fighting off the system with no real trouble. There are other suites out there that do the same. Trend micro makes some good products as well, I've run Trend scanmail for exchange quite successfully and found that protection at the email gateway almost irradicates any threat (we still keep AV at desktop though). Really, none of this answers your question for a simple home solution. I figure someone else might pop in this post and get some info from it. I used to run a shareware program by Shark bbs called thunderbyte (speaking of memory hogs xpa-) it was a small, light package, and ran unnoticeable. unfortunately I think they got bought out and the product is no more.

norton is pretty easy to find, as is crackafee (mcafee) trend can be hit at www.trendmicro.com

I've never had a problem with Norton AntiVirus until the 2007 came out.
It hogs your system's resources and slow down your entire computing experience.

Very disappointing, as I have always used Norton products in the past.
Some of their earlier products were more user friendly.
