DVD Burners
Have a question to anyone who knows about burning dvds. I was on Ebay and saw software that turns your cdrw into a dvd burner and was wondering if this was no lie? Also what do you think is a good price for a dvd burner? also if it is posiable to burn dvds with a cdrw do you know where I might get the software for free? If there are previous posts to a simular thread let me know because I didnt see any, thanks.

I've also heard that rubbish floating around somewhere, but let me tell you it is just that, rubbish. I'm almost 100% sure it's FALSE!!
A very good DVD burner is the Pioneer DVR-A03 - uses the DVD-R format (with it you can burn both CD's and DVD's) - and here in Australia it is about $1,000 - I see that you are in the US, so half the price and that is what it should be approximately there.

thank you greg thats what I thought my self due to the grafical point of it all a cdrw wouldnt have the quality to produce such a thing. but it could however put it in .avi format but thats only good on a media player on a computer. what do you think?

Well, ofcourse you could convert the DVD movie into DivX (which is smaller in size and should fit on a CD), but you obviously will see a downgrade in quality.
Check out http://www.digital-digest.com/ - very good site about all this stuff.

Over here in Japan, they started selling computers that come with a DVD RAM/R Drive or something... They advertised that you could make your own DVD movies and bring them to a friends house to play, but I can't remember the company or anything... I'm not sure what size though... I remember about 2-3 Months (or a year or so back) that some 4.7 GB DVD-RAM Drives were about $600-$900. I can't remember the prices of the larger sizes (7.4? and 9.? GB), but I know the media still costs a bit compared to CD-R... I haven't been to a computer store in a while + my memory isn't all that great... Hope there's something interesting here...

HP has a fine line of DVD/RW drives. They get up to speeds of 2.4X rewrite. Plus it writes to CDR/RW as well.

Lots of good info on DVD drives here. Also, yes is does come with mastering software made by Veritus. It works good with either DVD/R/RW or CDR/RW. It retails for about $499.00.

Thats one thing I can say about HP. I have used several brand of drives and HP is always a little higher in price. But the quality is great and so is the warranty support so far.
