Actually it will. Got a bunch of 48x64 gifs. Don't won't to be too greedy though. :)
I think the avatars are fine at the moment, making them bigger would just mean more space being taken up at the side of the screen where it lists your profile.
It would be a good idea though if avatars were in PNG rather than GIF format, that way the file size should be smaller saving download times and precious bandwidth for JP. :D
