This article discusses the premise of a lemon law that would govern software manufacturers. Similar to a motor vehicle lemon law, it would protect the user from dmage caused by the software.
Great article...very interesting. A Software Lemon Law would definitely give Bill Gates a good jolt, something that quite a few people would enjoy seeing. *LOL* I know I would. =)

I also think it would be a good idea. Right now there is nothing to protect the user if the software they install totally fvx their system. Of course, it would have to be written very specifically, or they company will lose thier shirts in returns and in word-of-mouth trashings.
I think it is not a good idea. If the user is to stupid to watch what he puts on his computer, than it is his problem. The manufacturer needs to be protected too. I would agree if the law states that you can put a notice on the software saying you take no reasponsibility for the product.
Actually makes me think of a game I saw on the shelves of Futureshop....
I think it was Might and Magic 7 or something....
Anyways, a BIG sticker was on it saying that this software contained a horrible bug that is IN THE PROCESS of being repared/patched, which, upon uninstall of the software, wipes out your WHOLE hardrive!!!!
Now that's uninstall!!!
At least it gets rid of all those extra DLL's that are no longer used!
I think there should be some penalty for gross negligence on the part of software manufacturers, but I also think a lot of the responsibility belongs with the consumer. As long as we continue buying crappy software, they'll keep putting it out. Such is life...
This could cause software company's to want to send there own people to install there software on you computer. IMHO that would be bad. However, it would be nice to see companies held responsible for neglect. So I guess I'll just sit here and contradict myself some more.
I think that was the idea. Only if the programmer was found to be grossly negligent in their code would it be their fault. Granted, if you fvk up while installing it the company should not be responsible at all. But, if it is their fault, I think they need to take responsibility for their actions.Quote:
