HTML and webpage

Well I know this is probably going to sound like a newbie question however this is the deal...

I have decided I want to make a webpage from scratch using HTML however I don't know HTML I was going to use XML however I have no references for it...not only that but I hear it is only a dynamic add in or something along those lines to streamline HTML. But to continue...

I registered the http://cybermagellan.tk address and want to put something on their besides pictures of girls that I download from other places....(right now I am using the geocities and the little HTML that I do know to do it.) HOWEVER I noticed http://bonfire.tk and I got jelouse with the Flash beginning (I think it is flash) but I want to do something so I am taking a type of poll.....

1. What would be a good, wanted topic (besides porn) that I could do a webpage about?
2. Is there a good resource on the internet for learning HTML? (I keep running into college courses about it and that is annoying me I have a higher inteligence than half of people with degrees, I am in the military and you should talk to the officers here)

I really appreciate it and would love to do this so if some of the more experienced people would help out I would be grateful

I also like the O'Rielly book on HTML (25 to 35 USD). Do a webpage on something you find interesting.

My site isn't porn now just some hot looking women.....just cause I thought it would be nice so that they aren't on my computer anymore and the .tk doesn't come up on our firewall at work so I post all my pics there

Get webdwarf for free, make pages with it and then analyse the html it produced, you will figure it in 10 minutes if you ever programmed.

Yes well I have never programmed as much of anything I mean I know like a little HTML and I had made a whole OS for my moms old 386(made with BASIC) however I never got into anything like c++ or JAVA or any of the other languages

basic is the best base, you will figure it out

Personally, I like Sams books...Learn HTML in 24 hrs. I am not a programmer, but I found that book easy to follow. I was able to create a simple web-page quickly with it.

As far as a topic, maybe you could do something for your mil. division (if it's allowed)...possibly a site for friends and relatives to visit to keep up on you...that way you should get a constant supply of new material
