VeriSign has agreed to stop sending false notices that tell customers of rival registrars their domain names will soon expire. The company, which is the leading registrar of domain names, signed a federal court order Wednesday saying it will not send bogus messages warning customers that their domain names were about to expire and offering to sign up the Web addresses with VeriSign. The company also agreed not to send other official-looking notices that appear to be from the current registrar in an attempt to convince people to switch to VeriSign.

About time! Those are so annoying and unprofessional.

We actually had to yell at /another/ provider that was doing the same exact thing... unfortunately, I run a service that's still dependant on the ability to email updates in to the registrar (for completely automated add, delete and modify) and, at this point, the only one that I know of that happens to support that sort of thing is NetSol (though it seems they are trying to get rid of it).

If anyone has a better suggestion, I'd love to hear it... personally, NetSol/Verisign has been pissing me off for years... I'm tired of getting my host and handle reports three months after I ask for them, having my transfers not happen within six months, etc. (Funny, you would THINK that they'd want to get PAID, but, it seems that's completely secondary to their providing the customer crappy service)
