how to be able to sniff the external interface

How one person sniffs external traffic on network. Any replies will be appreciated.

If you do a search on google for packet sniffers you can find programs that do it. Basicaly you set up an IP range that you want to sniff and then it captures all packets that it can and then you analize them to determine what it was

wait, you're saying its possible to sniff packets that is on your WAN? Like your ISP's network?

might depend what sniffer you are using but yes

yanksfan it really wasn't made very clear what was meant by " external traffic on network"

he might just mean traffic going to other computers on his lan segment or maybe he did mean the internet.
