Modem Problem

i'm already install SuSE Linux....
the problem is about my modem... I cant connect to internet....
im using Aztech 56K USB Port.....
for ur information my Suse Linux using kernel version 2.4.10 and I already upgrade to version 2.4.18... and the problem is the same and message appear .......
"pppd:failed to open /dev/ttyACM0 :invalid argument
pppd died:serial port open failed (exit code 7)"

not sure if this is of any help, but i'll suggest it anyway
could be the USB modem which is the problem or you may have your modem set up incorrectly as based on the error message SuSE is trying to use a serial modem but the modem you have is USB

thats about all the help i can provide as im not sure how linux or unix handles USB or if it even fully supports those type of devices at all, could anyone else here shed some light on this for both of us maybe? :confused:

i'm already install modem USB driver for linux but the problem is the same...

hey, i don't know the answer to the question however i do know that Linux is very poor at supporting USB connections. However it is quickly becoming better. Maybe we will see better support soon in the future as USB is becoming more popular and more widespread.

Don't know if you tried this, but it helped someone who had the same problem as you :

i have tried aztech driver and it didn't work too. Get the driver from the modem chip manufacturer (smlink).

This is how I get my modem working:

1) uninstall the aztech driver

2) download the modem driver from www.smlink.com-->click "Download" and follow the links; the filename should be "slmdm-2.6.16_i386.tar.gz"

3) click "readme" on the same download page and follow instruction to install driver.

Hope it works. :D

maybe your modem is a winmodem and if so it dosent work in linux
