Xine... what!? DVD plugin doesn't support encrypted DVDs!!!

I was surprised to see that the newest version of Xine (DVD player for linux) didn't support encrypted DVDs.. well the d5d plugin supports encrypted DVDs using the DeCSS code but it doesn't work properly.. a lot of graphical error occur...

I remember the Xine version that came with RH7.3... it worked perfectly... back then the DVD plugin could play my encrypted DVDs without any trouble... but the owners of that plugin wont use the DeCSS code cuz of the legal status... once again we get *****ed by the DMCA... and we have the MPAA and many others to thank for this... they'll never learn.. they just want power, control, and more money... it's sick!

Hi,

If you don't like Xine anymore....try Mplayer, It's really good..I like Mplayer then Xine, and really simple to compile it and working great for my *nix.

You might also want to check out ogle. Its a pretty good dvd player for linux that supports encrypted dvd's and dvd menus. I installed it on my 400 mhz slackware laptop and it works great.

tested mplayer.. it's ok but *beep* up once in a while... gonna check out Ogle...

btw. any1 know about any good CD burning programs? I currently use Gnome Toaster but isn't there something "finished" like Nero or something like it for linux.. I've browsed through Freshmeat but didn't really find anything

There is no truly commercial cd burning software for linux. However xcdroast and eroaster are easy to use and work pretty well. Another thing you can do to burn cd's is use the command line utility cdrecord. All of the graphical linux burning utilities use cdrecord to burn, but you can use the command line to utilize it as well.
